1. What is a domain name?

A domain name is a unique name which is used in your website and email addresses. For example, if your company name is Wigits, Inc. you may want (if available) to own the domain name "wigits.com".

3. The domain name I want has already been taken. What can I do now?

Try changing the name slightly. For example, if your company name is Wigits, Inc. and wigits.com is already taken, you may want to try wigitsinc.com, wigitscompany.com, wigits.cc, wigitcorp.com, buyawigit.com, etc. Get creative and you're likely to come up with a domain name you can live with!

5. How do I register my domain?

You may register your domain with any domain registrar. If you choose to register your domain with us, we can consolodate your invoices so that you don't have to deal with separate registration and hosting invoices from two separate companies. Because of our large volume of domain registrations, we are able to offer greatly discounted domain name registration fees. Sign up for your domain using our Domain Registration Page. If you will be paying using something other than a credit card, enter Visa number 4111-1111-1111-1111 when prompted for a card number.

6. After registering, when will the new domain be available for my use?

Within 24-72 hours your domain will be live. This process is controlled by InterNIC and not us. Also, because of the nature of the Internet's Domain Name Service (DNS), it may take up to 72 hours for new domain information to propagate throughout the Internet's nameservers.

If you are hosting your site with us, we will give you a temporary domain name to use right away to get your site up and running until your new or transferred domain is ready.

7. What is domain parking? And when do I need it?

If you want to reserve the domain in your name (so no one else will take it) you will need to register it. Before a new domain name can be obtained, at least two DNS (Domain Name System) nameservers on the Internet must be authoritative for the new domain name. What this means in English is that you can't sign up for a domain name without having somewhere for it to live. We provide domain parking services FREE of charge so that you can reserve your domain name until you are ready to setup a webpage or email services using it.

9. Can I renew my existing domain name with you to save on registration fees?

Absolutely. If your domain wasn't registered with us originally, we will need to perform a registrar transfer. This is a very simple process. Simply visit our Domain Registration Page and click on the link entitled "Transfer Your Existing Domain from Another Registrar" which will lead you through the process.

10. If I plan to transfer my domain registrar, when should I start the process?

It is important to perform the transfer as early as possible. Some registrars will disallow the transfer if a domain is within one month of expiring. It is best to perform the transfer at least two months before your domain is up for renewal.

11. If I transfer my domain registrar months in advance will I lose time I've already paid for?

No. Regardless of when you perform the transfer, your domain registration date will be extended by one year. For example, let's say your domain is due for renewal on December 12. If you transfer your domain registrar on July 14, you will be invoiced immediately for the additional registration year (at a much lower rate than you are probably paying currently), but your domain won't be up for renewal again (and you won't be invoiced again) until December 12 of the following year. Thus you lose nothing by transferring early.

12. If I use your domain registration services, am I required to host my website with you? What about vice-versa?

No. Our website hosting services and domain registration services are separate, so one is not linked to the other. While we would love to have you utilize both our registration and hosting services, you may use either one without the other.

13. A warning about domain name marketing tactics

Deregulation of domain name registration now allows the consumer the choice of their registrar. While this has resulted in many domain name owners to save money on the purchase of new domain names and annual registration renewals, it also bring with it an new marketing tactics of which the consumer should be aware. We have seen a growing trend in misleading advertising from domain registrars in the form of bulk email and direct mailings sent months before a domain's renewal time. These mailings appear in the form of an invoice asking you to renew your domain name. If you read the small print (sometimes hidden quite well), you may notice that by paying them you authorize the transfer of your domain to their registry. Many of our customers have their domain name registrations and renewals invoiced directly by Ultratron and thus can disregard these email/direct-mail notices. If you have any questions about who your domain registrar is, or which invoices are real vs. marketing, we would be happy to assist you.
